 Clubhouse

Six Park Place is the home of the Royal Over-Seas League. A not-for-profit private members’ club, where spirit and charm are woven into the very fabric of the building.

The Royal Over-Seas League is incorporated by Royal Charter and dedicated to championing international friendship across the globe. Our patron is the late HM Queen Elizabeth II.

We have been bringing like-minded people together since 1910.

Six Park Place creates an opportunity for members and event bookers to hire dedicated areas of the Clubhouse for entertaining and events.

A voyage of discovery, a new event horizon.

A Colourful past

Stories date back to the 18th Century where ongoings at Park Place were not perhaps as wholesome as today. A notorious brothel keeper named Old Mother Needham kept a ‘house of civility’, she hosted a long tenure here due to rich protectors but ran afoul of moral reformers and was ultimately convicted of keeping a disorderly house in 1731.

#HowItStarted

The Club was then founded in 1910 as the vision of one man, Sir Evelyn Wrench. Wrench was an entrepreneur who made his fortune in postcards, before working with the press baron Lord Northcliffe. It was during his extensive travels around the world with Northcliffe in the early 1900s that Wrench’s vision for an Empire Society developed.

Sir Evelyn Wrench’s inspiration was to embrace the British Empire, not just as a political and economic network, but as a ‘far-flung brotherhood of individual men and women of diverse creed and races living widely apart under differing conditions in different latitudes’. Wrench had a truly progressive mind for a man of his time.

Today, we celebrate our global connections and unique blend of culture and creativity. This is realised through an extensive arts programme which supports young musicians and artists, helping them to connect, collaborate and create.
